The artist, who spent his early years on the Black Sea shores, decided to make his favourite body of water his own for a short time and turn the action into an artistic event, which he did during the Hag Stone Festival in Koktebel. To assert his rights to it, the author decided to «sign» the sea. Huge letters were made for this campaign, together spelling out the phrase «My Black Sea». It was planned to put them under the water at the foot of the Karadag mountain. There is a mystical and in some way humorous story related to this project. When some of the letters had already been installed, a strong wind arose and scattered the letters reading «my», leaving the rest of the phrase intact. This is probably the only occasion in Ponomarev’s artistic career when his project was not fully completed. The campaign was carried out in cooperation with opera soloists and the musical quartet of the Bolshoy Theatre.
